Dear Jimi,
Congratulations on the expansion of your service. I know that for many
years you have linked up established radio, TV, and recording facilities
with fresh faces looking for a break. I'm pleased that you have decided
to offer the same service to those wanting to get their first break into
the film industry.
As you know, college degrees and resumes mean very little in this business.
There are far too many qualified individuals already working. Producers
and production managers no longer look to resumes, but instead turn to
colleagues for their hiring recommendations. The old adage is true --
it's definitely who you know. This is why internships have become an increasingly
effective way to get the proverbial foot in the door, and I'm glad you
are using your extensive connections to facilitate this. I wish it were
that easy to find connections when I was first starting out.
I myself would be interested in helping those individuals who take an
interest in film/video editing and/or postproduction supervision. Believe
me, I could put them to work and give them a better real-world education
than most schools would.
Again, congratulations on expanding the scope of your business, and let
me know if I can be of any assistance.
