Film Connection will place you
with a professional film, commercial, TV, or music video editor
within an hour to 90 minutes of where you live. 
This
professional
filmmaker becomes your personal tutor, your private mentor if you like,
and he or she will teach you just about all you need to know to get
your start in the film business, In addition to that, your mentor will
introduce you to his or her connections in the film business by placing
you on real movie, TV, commercial or music video projects. Now compare
that with sitting in some overcrowded, OVERPRICED college
classroom…it’s the biggest “no brainer” in the history of film school

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
If accepted into our Editing Program you will learn how to be a florist…(just kidding). You will learn Editing of course! The Film Connection Editing program is designed as an intensive 4 month, introductory editing course that will teach you the basics of Final Cut Pro or Avid Editing (you choose). The benefits of learning from a professional editor as opposed to a college teacher should be clear, but in case it’s not, read on:
First, learning from a professional that is daily faced with meeting the demands of the industry as opposed to a “college editing teacher” who is daily faced with the demands of “just teaching” can help you to better prepare for your career as an editor.
Second, learning from a pro in his or her studio only
places you
that much closer to the “action” so to speak. Where would you rather
learn, in a “safe” college classroom where NO ONE gets hired, or next
to a pro., in a real world studio or company who might have an
opportunity to hire you or place you on a real project?
Third, the fastest way to get hired in the film business is to know
someone, that is to “have connection”. At Film Connection your teacher
is a working professional that makes his or her living in the film
business as an editor. What that means is that your mentor has hundreds
of connections. And if he or she has trained you and believes in you,
guess who your mentor might recommend for the next job that comes his
or her way?
WHAT DOES A FILM EDITOR DO?
The film editor is responsible for
“cutting” the picture together
so as to create a cinematic story that makes sense. It is a very
technical position that requires calm, savvy, a technical knowledge of
computer software and hardware and story telling. Scenes may have been
photographed poorly and performances might be terrible, but a skilled
and creative editor can put the film together so that the audience will
never
see these imperfections. Editors often “save” pictures from
disaster, but they can also ruin a film by not allowing it to come
forward. Editors usually work very closely with the director and
producer for months at a time in a dark, cold room and keep late hours
so if you want to be an editor, you better not be the type of person
that needs the great outdoors or keep so called “normal hours”. Editors
can make between 65 – 300,000 per year and this position is considered
one of the most important jobs in film. Some editors often go on to
become directors (see Hal Ashby) because an editor’s knowledge of
“coverage” and story telling must be second to none. Editors work as
both freelance independent contractors, and as in-house salaried
employees of major studios, film and TV production companies for
features, commercials and music videos. Some professional editors
choose to work out of their own home or office suite. The best editors
in the film business are highly regarded and sometimes credited with
“making or breaking” a film project. Editors are usually considered the
“head or boss of the post production” phase of filmmaking.

job and trained with a real-life editor. When I started this
course I knew nothing about Final Cut Pro, nothing at all, but I
practiced at home and after four months I knew enough about Final Cut
