BALTIMORE, MARYLAND is the 24th largest DMA in the
U.S. Home to both the Baltimore Orioles of MLB and the Baltimore
Ravens of the NFL, the city is entering the final stages of an ongoing
downtown renewal effort of which the Orioles’ Camden Park was
pivotal. Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner about
the American flag waving over Baltimore’s Ft. McHenry. F. Scott
Fitzgerald made his home here for a while, and Tender is the Night was
published during his stay.Babe Ruth, John Waters, Billie Holiday, Thurgood Marshall, Wallace Simpson the Duchess of Windsor, Johnny Unitas, Stacey Keibler, Parker Posey, Montel Williams and David Hasselhoff are some of the celebrities who were born in Baltimore. Edgar Alan Poe died there. Baltimore was the starting point of the first railroad line in the U.S.
Independent film director John Waters, a Baltimore native, shot many of his early films in the Baltimore area. The TV series Homicide, The Corner and The Wire are all Baltimore based. Recently, Ladder 49 with John Travolta and John Cameron’s Ghost of the Abyss were shot in Baltimore. Altogether IMDB lists more than 275 feature films, TV series or specials shot in Baltimore.
